Dick Beardsley Race Details
The Essentia Health Dick Beardsley Races is set to run in Detroit Lakes on Saturday, September 12th, to celebrate the famous Minnesota runner in his home state!
With options for all age groups, such as half-marathon, 10K, 5K, and Youth Run courses, it’s fun for the whole family. Registration is opens January 1st, 2026!

Half Marathon
Start Time: 8:00 AM
Celebrate Dick Beardsley’s passion for running by getting in some miles at the Dick Beardsley Races! It’s fun for the whole family, with options for all age groups.
10K
Start Time: 8:00 AM
The 10K course will take you along 6.2 miles of glittering Detroit Lake shoreline. With a mostly flat course, it’s a perfect way to get in your end-of-summer run!
Youth Run
Start Time: 11:00 AM
The kids can join in the fun on race day! Register them for the Youth Run. They will receive a t-shirt and a medal to commemorate their achievement!
Andy Beardsley Memorial 5K
Start Time: 8:00 AM
The Andy Beardsley Memorial 5K, which was renamed after Dick Beardsley’s son who died in 2015, is one of our most special events. Andy was a local to Detroit Lakes who loved the outdoors especially if he was fishing with his dad.
Although he didn’t consider himself a runner, Andy completed a 5K, exemplifying his ability to take on a challenge and complete a race. Ready to take on the challenge like Andy?
Our 5K is open to all ages and levels, so don’t sweat it if you’re a new runner.
Starting near the Detroit Lakes Community and Cultural Center, you’ll run (or walk) along Detroit Lake,
passing local staples before returning to cross the finish line!
It’s an event you won’t want to miss.
As his dad’s infamous quote reminds us,
“When you cross that finish line, it will change your life forever!”

Pacers
We will have pacers for Beardsley at the following times: 1:35, 1:40,1:45, 1:50, 1:55, 2:00, 2:05, 2:10, 2:20, 2:30, and 2:45.
Parking
For packet pickup and race day, free parking will be available at and around the Detroit Lakes Community and Cultural Center & Historic Holmes Theatre, as well as the parking lot of Washington Square Mall (only 1 block East of Start/Finish area)
Awards
Awards are given to the top 3 men and women overall.
Post-Race Fun
Post-race refreshments, snacks, and other treats will await you at the finish line! Check out local places for the best food and drink this side of Minnesota!
